Agioi Omologites Prepares for Laou Laou Open Streets Event
On Sunday, 21st September, the central neighbourhood of Agioi Omologites will be transformed into a vibrant, car-free zone as part of the annual Laou Laou - Open Streets event. This initiative, organised by the Organisation for Positive Urbanism (OPU), is supported by numerous local and international organisations, including the Ministry of Transport, Communications And Works, Department of Public Works, Sustainable Mobility Section, the Institut Francais de Chypre, the Embassy of the Netherlands in Cyprus, Nicosia Municipality, Ioannides Supermarket, LLPO Law, Ancoria Bank, Bolt, Nextbike, Cyprus Public Transport, and Cohesion4(E)U.
The winding lanes of Agioi Omologites will be transformed into a dynamic space for play, creativity, and connection. Festival-goers can expect a variety of activities, such as bike rides, art and craft workshops, urban games, storytelling, music, food stalls, and more.
Visitors are encouraged to arrive on foot, bike, scooter, or skates. For those traveling from further afield, peripheral parking areas will be available, and a free electric bus service will be running dedicated routes to and from the area.
In an effort to highlight the benefits of active and sustainable transport, several group rides will be organised from different parts of the city, making use of the Pedieos Linear Park. Festival-goers can also borrow a bike or e-scooter for free, courtesy of Nextbike, a partner for the event.
The event is part of European Mobility Week (16-22 September), aiming to encourage people to reimagine the role of public space in urban life. Laou Laou - Open Streets invites people of all ages to experience the neighbourhood without cars and to enjoy a day filled with fun, activities, and a celebration of sustainable living.
The Embassy of the Netherlands in Cyprus and the Institut Francais de Chypre are among the supporters of the event, demonstrating their commitment to promoting sustainable urban practices and fostering a more connected community.
Join us on September 21, 2025, for a day of fun, activities, and a celebration of sustainable living at Laou Laou - Open Streets in Agioi Omologites. Let's come together to reimagine our cities and public spaces for a greener, more active, and more connected future.
