Alte Ziegelei Park Transformed: Green Classroom & New Habitats Unveiled
The Department of Urban Greenery has revamped a part of 'Alte Ziegelei' park, creating a 'Green Classroom' and valuable habitats ahead of the IGA 2027.
The centrepiece of the redesign is a semicircular wall that houses the 'Green Classroom'. This space will serve as a hub for environmental education and events. The wall, constructed from Ruhr sandstone, also functions as a retaining wall and visitor seating.
New paths have been laid out, connecting different parts of the park. The Landesverband Westfalen und Lippe der Kleingärtner e.V., in collaboration with the Fachbereich Stadtgrün of Lünen, oversaw the project. Their efforts have resulted in two ecologically valuable habitats: a dry grassland area and a wet meadow. These additions will boost biodiversity and provide spaces for local flora and fauna to thrive.
The revamped 'Alte Ziegelei' park now boasts a 'Green Classroom' and two new habitats, thanks to the Department of Urban Greenery's redesign. These additions will enhance the park's educational and ecological value, making it a more engaging and sustainable space for the community.
