Art Gallery in Baden-Baden gets a new manager, hailing from Karlsruhe
In an exciting turn of events, renowned cultural institutions, the Badisches Landesmuseum and Kunsthalle Baden-Baden, are set to share the same leadership from May 1. Eckart Köhne will assume the roles of both the Scientific Director for the Badisches Landesmuseum and the Director of Kunsthalle Baden-Baden.
Meanwhile, Susanne Schulenburg steps into a new role as the Commercial Director for both institutions. The specifics of her role at the museum and gallery are not currently known.
The Badisches Landesmuseum will temporarily move to the Kunsthalle for approximately five years during its renovation. This move aims to ensure that contemporary art continues to be presented at the Kunsthalle, interacting with cultural-historical objects. The Kunsthalle will remain an important place for art and cultural education throughout this period.
During the renovation, the dual leadership of the Badisches Landesmuseum will take over the leadership of the Kunsthalle. After the planned exhibitions, the Badisches Landesmuseum and the Kunsthalle team will jointly develop a new program, featuring contemporary positions.
The program planned by the previous management of the Kunsthalle for 2026 will be implemented, including exhibitions by Mehtap Baydu and Egemen Demirci (opening on June 27) and "Selber Ort, andere Zeit" in October.
It is worth noting that both cultural institutions are located in Baden-Baden, a city in Germany. The Badisches Landesmuseum and Kunsthalle Baden-Baden are subscription-based, requiring a Staatsanzeiger subscription to subscribe to topics and save articles.
The change in leadership comes after the expiration of the previous Director of Kunsthalle Baden-Baden's contract, and the contract of Kunsthallen-Direktorin Çagla Ilk will not be renewed.
Eva-Maria Schlosser, the author of this article, provides no information about the future leadership of the Badisches Landesmuseum after the renovation period.
