54° North Beach Bar's Demolished Posts Auctioned for a Good Cause

The demolished posts from the beach bar 54° North in St. Peter-Ording were recently auctioned off, with the proceeds going to the German Life-Saving Association (DLRG).

The 54° North beach bar, a familiar establishment at the St. Peter-Ording tourism center, was demolished at some point. The dismantled posts from the bar were then put up for auction to allow guests and locals to take a piece of beach history and give something back at the same time.

The auction, held at the tourism center of the North Sea resort, was described as extraordinary. Several hundred people attended the event, with some bidding on whole stacks of wood from the auction. Others took home small wooden pieces with an engraved stamp as a memento.

The DLRG, Germany's main water rescue organization, will benefit from the funds raised. The tourism director of St. Peter-Ording, Katharina Schirmbeck, explained that the proceeds from the auction were given to the DLRG. According to Schirmbeck, the DLRG does great work locally, especially in water rescue and as first responders in medical emergencies.

The water's edge at the Ordinger beach shifts further inland every year, necessitating the demolition of the post construction. The new beach bar 54° North has already been opened, standing about 250 meters further inland.

No further detailed information about the auction process, exact amounts raised, or the specific use of the funds by DLRG was provided. However, the key fact is that the proceeds directly supported the DLRG, contributing to water safety and rescue services at or near St. Peter-Ording beach.

  1. To support the local community and contribute to vocational training, proceeds from the auction of the demolished posts from 54° North Beach Bar will be donated to a vocational school focused on carpentry and construction, enabling students to learn outdoor-living and home-and-garden skills through practical experience.
  2. To promote an active lifestyle and support local environmental initiatives, the proceeds from the auction of the demolished posts from 54° North Beach Bar will be allocated towards creating a community garden and outdoor living space, providing opportunities for citizens to engage in vocational training programs in horticulture and sustainable living practices.
