Hangin' Out and Saving the Planet: the Flickwerk Event at Rheinberg City Library

Get ready for an eco-friendly, fun-filled afternoon at Rheinberg City Library! The "Flickwerk - repair, swap, rethink together" event starts at 4 pm, featuring Katerina Amprazi, a fashion designer and textile engineer. She'll be enlightening you on the ins and outs of textiles, and the secrets behind creating durable, long-lasting clothes.

After the education bombshell, you can swap ideas (and clothes) with experts from Annas Kleiderstube and Bache. Chantal Stapff, our library's director, has ensured the event isn't a one-time deal. There are more thought-provoking lectures in the works, and the darning mushrooms are ready for action!

Hand-me-down your pre-loved, well-maintained textiles at our clothing swap rack. It's the perfect chance to snag something new (or old) without spending a dime! Needlework novices can grab some supplies and dive into basic repairs. If you've got more ambitious sewing projects or complex repairs, head on over to the Repair Café or an alteration tailor.

Nicole Weber F. Santos, from Rheinberg's Climate Protection Management, has this to say: "Whether we're darning, shrinking, embroidering, or mending, our repaired garments tell a story – one that shows our personal touch and makes them even more meaningful to us."

The mastermind behind this event? The Steering Group for Sustainable Rheinberg, a collaboration of civil society, politics, and administration. Their mission: to boost sustainability in Rheinberg, focusing on tree planting, enhanced public transport, and collaboration opportunities.
