Blooming District 2023 in Düsseldorf: Contest for the 1st District's Dominance Heats Up

Turn Düsseldorf Green for "Blossoming District 2023": Join the Competition!

Ever fancied showcasing your green fingers and creating an insect-friendly paradise? If you reside in Golzheim, Derendorf, Pempelfort, the Old Town, Carlstadt, or the City Center, this is your chance! The local Greens group invites you to participate in "Blossoming District 2023" - the competition for the finest eco-friendly gardens, tree beds, and balconies. The deadline for entries is August 1, 2023.

As Bernadette Niehaus, the competition initiator and co-chair of the local Greens group, explains, "Last year's inaugural competition revealed numerous lush, vibrant retreats in our district. We desire to keep backing this trend." She shares that a multitude of stunning balcony and garden submissions have already been received, with tree beds also receiving loving care.

By joining the competition, you'll make your neighborhood more attractive, promoting a livable, breathable, and colorful community. Gardens, tree beds, and greened balconies provide cooling effects through evaporating water, produce oxygen, serve as habitat for insects and birds, and bolster biodiversity. Even small spaces, when well-designed and maintained, contribute significantly to climate protection. This competition advocates sustainability, but it's also about creating a beautiful, flourishing neighborhood.

Anyone with a garden, balcony, or is willing to adopt a tree in a tree bed, located in one of the specified districts, can enroll.

The competition is ongoing until August 1, 2023, and entries can still be submitted via photos. A jury consisting of Tobias Krause (Biodiversity Commissioner of the City of Düsseldorf), District Mayor Annette Klinke, Dr. Christoph-Danelzik Brügemann (Art Historian), Yasmin Jarjour (Architect), Christoph Linke (IT), and Bernadette Niehaus (Economist), will award attractive prizes to participants.

Want to Participate Without a Garden or Balcony? No Problem! Simply take on a tree sponsorship and join the tree bed category.
