Bus Service Introduces New Route: 3A
In the southern part of Darmstadt, the Ludwigshöhe district is taking shape, designed to be car-light and intended to house 3,000 people upon completion. As of now, 700 people have already moved into the district. One of the key developments in the area is the new bus line 3A, which began operation on August 18, 202x.
The bus line, operated by HEAGmobilo, serves the Ludwigshöhe district and provides a connection to the existing public transport network. A valid public transport ticket is required to ride Line 3A, which operates every 20 minutes on weekdays from 04:00 to 21:00 and every 30 minutes on weekends. Interestingly, after 21:00, Line 3A can be used for free with a valid public transport ticket.
The "A" in the line name for bus 3A stands for "connection," according to HEAGmobilo CEO Johannes Gregor. The bus line, despite being operated by two former Heinerliner buses, has only eight seats. Line 3A is electrically powered, making it an environmentally friendly addition to the district's mobility mix, a point emphasized by Robert Karnes, head of the mobility and civil engineering department.
The new bus line 3A is a temporary measure until the Ludwigshöhebahn, a planned tram line, starts operation. However, there seems to be no publicly documented start date for the Ludwigshöhebahn in the given search results. Historical context suggests that transport links in Darmstadt's districts, including the Ludwigshöhe district, may have been developed mid-20th century to improve connectivity.
In the long term, the Ludwigshöhebahn is planned to connect the district to existing tram lines 1, 6, 7, and 8. Until then, there will always be a connection from tram line 3 to line 3A and vice versa at the "Lichtenbergschule" stop.
The Ludwigshöhe district, with only about 0.6 parking spaces per household, is intended to be car-light. An adequate connection to the Darmstadt public transport network will continue to be necessary in the future. The mobility concept in the Ludwigshöhe district also includes car-sharing offers, similar to the Lincoln settlement.
For accurate and precise historical data on Ludwigshöhebahn and Ludwigshöhe district improvements, local Darmstadt municipal archives, transport authority records, or historical publications about Darmstadt's urban development would be the best sources.
