Church's Innovative Sensory Exhibition Engulfs Attendees

In the heart of Cuenca, Spain, the ancient temple of San Miguel now hosts a digital immersive art experience called Luz Cuenca. At the centre of this captivating multimedia exhibition is a high-quality sound system, expertly designed by sound engineer Poti Martínez and supplied by Fluge.

The choice of sound system was critical, as the main objective was to effectively and uniformly reproduce sound in the space at low volumes. To achieve this, the audio signals are processed and distributed to the loudspeakers via NST Audio DSP matrices.

KV2 sound systems, renowned for their exceptional clarity, detailed sound reproduction, and powerful output despite compact size, were chosen for this immersive, low SPL audio application. The key reasons for this choice include:

  • High Clarity and Detail: KV2 loudspeakers provide an immersive experience without the need to push the volume to very high SPLs, preserving subtle audio nuances that are crucial for low SPL applications.
  • Powerful Output in Compact Form: Systems like the KV2 ESD25 deliver powerful output and clarity relative to their size, enabling sound designers to achieve impactful audio even at low volume levels.
  • Integrated Amplification and DSP: KV2 systems use dedicated amplifier lines and sophisticated onboard DSP, which facilitate precise tuning and calibration for immersive environments, enhancing audio accuracy and spatial effect without excessive sound pressure.
  • User Feedback at Demonstration Events: Positive reception at live demos underscores the reputation of KV2 for technology and sound quality that support immersive audio goals.

For Luz Cuenca, the sound system comprises 12 EX26 two-way active loudspeaker systems evenly distributed along the walls of the nave, eight EX1.5 subwoofers providing low end reinforcement, with four pairs placed either side of the altar and two pairs further down the nave. Two additional EX26s reinforce the upper gallery level. Custom white housings were designed for all the loudspeakers to minimise any interference with the video mapping.

The audio signals for each loudspeaker in Luz Cuenca are sent independently via Dante. The sound system, in addition to Luz Cuenca, will be used for multiple other events, including those with more demanding level requirements. The system is expected to sound just as good in events with higher SPL requirements, thanks to its ability to reproduce details of the music exactly as intended, even at low SPLs.

Ibercover Studio was in charge of production and content design for Luz Cuenca. The multimedia exhibition combines artistic lighting techniques, 2D and 3D projection mapping, and a dramatic orchestral music score powered by the KV2 sound system. This digital immersive art experience in Cuenca is a testament to the power of KV2 sound systems in delivering high-quality, detailed, transparent sound, making them the ideal choice for immersive, low SPL audio applications.

During the multimedia exhibition, Luz Cuenca, the KV2 sound system is used to deliver high-quality, detailed audio, featuring an immersive orchestral score and artistic lighting techniques. For future events with varying sound requirements, the home-and-garden of the ancient temple will also benefit from the systems' lifestyle-friendly design that provides powerful output in compact form and integrates amplification and DSP for precise tuning. The sound system's prominent features, such as its clarity and ability to preserve subtle audio nuances, make it suitable for both home-and-garden events and immersive, low SPL audio applications.
