Spotting Feathered Friends: Keep an Eye Out for Birds in Berlin - Join the "Hour of Garden Birds" Event
Berliners Encourage Bird Census: From Sparrows to Eagles - Citizens of Berlin urge bird census
Here's your chance to lend a hand to nature conservation in Berlin's bustling metropolis! From the majestic peregrine falcon to the humble sparrow, the Nature Conservation Union Germany (NABU) and Bavarian Nature Conservation Association LBV are inviting the community to participate in the "Hour of Garden Birds" event from May 9 to 11.
If you want to get involved in the city center, NABU Berlin suggests keeping an eye out for the vibrant goldfinch, with its red face and striking yellow wing stripes. The redstart, with its flashing red tail, is more commonly spotted on city outskirts. Don't forget to jot down observations of common species like pigeons, too.
Last year, keen-eyed participants counted a total of 36,000 birds across the city. Want to be a part of this year's count? It's easy! Simply find a quiet spot in your garden, park, or even a window, and note the highest number of each bird species you see within an hour. Submit your results via the internet, app, or post. Your contribution will help nature conservation associations gather valuable insights into current bird population trends.
Berlin has a thriving bird community, thanks to its prime location within a larger ecosystem that includes various bird reserves and migration routes. Keep an eye out for some of the diverse bird species that call Berlin home during the "Hour of Garden Birds" event.
NABU groups in Berlin are hosting guided tours during the counting weekend. In Lichtenberg district, you can join the count on May 11 at 9:00 AM in the Wartenberger field. If you're a family with little ones, bring them along for a bird-watching adventure on May 10 at 2:00 PM in the Rummelsburger Bucht.
Join the movement and make a difference in preserving the avian life in Berlin!
By participating in the "Hour of Garden Birds" event, you're contributing to environmental-science, aiding in the understanding of current bird population trends in the city of Berlin. Moreover, you could also enhance your lifestyle and home-and-garden activities by taking part in vocational training programs offered by NABU, such as identifying various bird species, contributing to science, and fostering a sense of community through policy decisions that prioritize nature conservation.
