City chooses updated melody line-up for its bells
Offenbach, Germany - The city's iconic carillon is set to welcome six new tunes as part of the Glock 'n Bach project, a musical celebration marking the 255th anniversary of the Apotheke zum Löwen.
The collaboration for this project includes "Like Offenbach", "Das ist Offenbach", and the municipal cultural management. Voting for the selected titles will take place from August 8 to 23, and interested parties can cast their votes online at www.glocknbach.de or at the Apotheke zum Löwen.
Peter Krausch will create the arrangements for the six chosen titles, ensuring they harmoniously blend with the carillon's unique sound. The jury considered the suitability of each title for implementation on the carillon, taking into account its limited number of tones and strong echo.
The selection includes 20 titles, ranging from international hits like "Viva la Vida" and "Bella Ciao" to rock titles like "Hells Bells" and local classics like "Have Mercy, the Hessian is Coming". Noteworthy inclusions are the theme song of "Sendung mit der Maus" and the song "Forever OFC".
Rhythmic rap pieces were eliminated due to the carillon's limitations, but the jury was surprised to find that some titles, like those by AC/DC, could work surprisingly well on the carillon, as noted by project overseer Dr. Ralph Philipp Ziegler.
The six songs selected for the carillon's repertoire are:
- Sleeping Isle
- Kleines Vogelhochzeit
- Wandersmann
- Snowflakes
- Danke
- Abendlied
These pieces were chosen to be played on the carillon as part of the project celebrating the musical heritage linked to the town and Johann Sebastian Bach. The six added titles will be regularly heard in the Offenbach city center in the future, adding a new dimension to the city's musical landscape.
The six most voted titles will be added to the carillon's repertoire on September 20, making Offenbach's musical heritage even more vibrant and diverse.
- Visitors to the Offenbach city center may notice a change in the city's ambiance as the home-and-garden atmosphere, typically soothing, will be intertwined with the otherworldly tones of the carillon, as six new titles are added to its repertoire.
- In addition to the classic melodies that already grace the carillon, one can expect to hear contemporary pieces from various genres, such as the theme song from "Sendung mit der Maus" and songs like "Viva la Vida" and "Hells Bells," which will enrich the lifestyle options for locals and tourists alike.
