Community-driven Wordstock Festival resumes its run in Sudbury
Wordstock Sudbury Literary Festival Makes a Comeback in 2025
After a challenging year, the Wordstock Sudbury Literary Festival is set to return, promising a reimagined event with a community-led vision. The festival, which will take place on October 24-25, 2025, will be hosted at Place des Arts in downtown Sudbury.
The revival of Wordstock is being credited to the support from The City of Greater Sudbury, Access Copyright, the Ontario Arts Council, and numerous other businesses and individual donors. The festival's board, which faced dissolution earlier this year due to financial woes and organizational challenges, has been working tirelessly to bring the event back to life.
The festival's 2025 edition is described as a turning point, with a thematic focus on "survival." This theme is intended to explore how stories help navigate complex world issues. The programming will include author panel discussions, workshops for writers, an open mic, a poetry slam, and the launch of a silent reading club.
Nancy Daoust, a local writer and festival committee chair, encourages everyone to tell their book clubs and spread the word about the festival. "We're thrilled to be bringing Wordstock back to Sudbury," she said. "We can't wait to share the exciting lineup of authors and events we have planned."
The headliners for the festival will be announced soon, and tickets will go on sale shortly. In the meantime, the volunteer planning committee is urging the public to mark their calendars for the upcoming author announcements.
Dinah Laprairie, the interim chair of the Wordstock board, expressed her gratitude for the community's support. "We couldn't do this without the help of our dedicated team of volunteers and the generous support of our sponsors," she said.
Subscription to the festival's newsletter is being encouraged, as it will be the primary source of updates and announcements leading up to the event. Breaking news alerts and daily newsletters with top local stories can be signed up for on the festival's website, which also has a News app available for download.
The author's name who will participate in the Poetry Slam at the Wordstock Sudbury Literary Festival 2025 is not publicly available at this time.
Nancy Daoust concluded by expressing her excitement for the festival and the impact it will have on the community. "Stories have the power to inspire, educate, and unite us. We can't wait to share the stories that will be told at Wordstock 2025."
So, mark your calendars and stay tuned for more updates on the Wordstock Sudbury Literary Festival 2025. Let's come together to celebrate the power of stories and the resilience of our community.
