Construction of the new skatepark in St Helier is set to finish next year, thanks to a £577,000 investment.

The government of Guernsey has announced plans to construct a new skatepark at Mount Bingham, with an expected completion date in 2026.

The closure of the New North Quay skatepark at the end of 2023 marked the beginning of a new era for skateboarding enthusiasts in the region. The new facility will replace the old one, providing a modern and state-of-the-art skatepark for the community.

The site for the new skatepark was confirmed as Mount Bingham earlier this year, with the government expressing hope that a planning application would be submitted before the end of 2025. The States of Guernsey have set aside £557,000 for the project, demonstrating their commitment to the initiative.

The planning application for the new skatepark was expected to be approved by the States Assembly in October 2024. However, it's important to note that the completion of the skatepark is contingent on this approval.

The new skatepark in St Helier, which was opened at Les Quennevais in February 2023, serves as a testament to the local government's dedication to providing high-quality facilities for its citizens.

Previous efforts to establish a skatepark at South Hill have faced challenges due to heritage concerns and changes in funding plans. Despite these obstacles, the current project seems to be gaining momentum, with the government expressing optimism about its prospects.

The new skatepark at Mount Bingham is expected to be a significant addition to the local community, offering a space for recreation, sports, and social interaction. Skateboarding enthusiasts can look forward to the completion of the facility in 2026.
