Craft DIY Concrete Candle Stands from Repurposed Plastic Bottles

Ready to add a unique twist to your home decor while going green? Here's an easy-peasy guide to making your own DIY concrete candle holders using plastic bottles. Get ready to impress your friends and save the planet, all in one go!

What You'll Need

  • Quikrete or any concrete mix
  • Recycled plastic bottles (of any shape and size) with a wide opening to fit candles
  • Bucket
  • Sifter or colander
  • Candles with a bottom that sticks well to wet concrete
  • Scissors
  • Small saw
  • Razor blade
  • Nonstick cooking spray
  • Small plastic container
  • Optional: Wood shims for added stability

Let's Get Started!

1. Sift and Prep the Workspace

  • Sift any bigger stones out of the concrete mix into the bucket. Keep the fine particles for the project.
  • Cover your workspace with an old newspaper or a plastic sheet to prevent mess.

2. Prepare the Bottles

  • Remove any thick labels from the bottles and rinse them thoroughly. Let them dry.
  • Cut the bottles to your desired height using scissors or a craft knife.

3. Apply Cooking Spray and Mix Concrete

  • Spray the candles' base with nonstick cooking spray.
  • Mix the concrete according to the package instructions.
  • Pour the mixed concrete into the plastic bottles, leaving a bit of space at the top for the candle.

4. Add the Candles and Let Set

  • Stick the prepared candles into the concrete-filled bottles.
  • Allow the concrete to set overnight in a safe place.

5. Remove the Candle Holders

  • Gently pull the candles out of the set concrete. Due to the cooking spray, the candles should come out easily.
  • Cut the tops off the bottles using a small saw and remove the plastic bottle from the concrete.
  • Carefully slice the plastic bottle's sides with a razor blade or box cutter to help it release from the concrete.

6. Finishing Touches

  • Peel off the remaining plastic and let the candle holder dry overnight.
  • If you're feeling fancy, apply some scalloped painter's tape, paint over it, and then remove the tape for a decorative touch.

That's it! Your DIY concrete candle holders are ready to brighten up your home. Impress your friends and family with these cool creations while being kind to our planet.
