"Cycling, art, and eco-friendly transportation are celebrated in the third anniversary of 'Move MH'"
In the heart of Mexico City, the Miguel Hidalgo Alcaldía celebrated the third anniversary of the Move MH Program. This initiative, aimed at promoting sustainable urban mobility, attracted over 600,000 cyclists in its 36 editions.
The event was filled with music and art, as a pianist performed at the Masaryk roundabout, a violinist accompanied cyclists during the ride, and a jazz group entertained the morning at Lincoln Park. The atmosphere was further enlivened by the ParqueArte program, which featured a performance of 'The Little Prince' and various recreational activities.
The highlight of the day was the 'Cyclists of the Future' race, a part of the Move MH Program. Over 2,000 children participated in this community event, promoting bicycle safety and responsible use from an early age. The top three infant participants who crossed the finish line were awarded, encouraging a culture of cycling from the very beginning.
Mauricio Tabe, the mayor, emphasized the importance of re-signifying the use of public space and prioritizing people over vehicles. He also highlighted the importance of sustainable and secure mobility, a key focus of the Move MH Program. Gabriela Salido, a representative from Bicibus CDMX, a parents' organization, echoed these sentiments, stressing the importance of appropriating urban space through sustainable mobility means like bicycles.
Salido further stated that public space is the connecting thread of society. She noted that programs like Move MH and BiciConecta foster family coexistence in public spaces and promote sustainable mobility. The BiciConecta program, which has accompanied over 321 people working in various points of Miguel Hidalgo, is a testament to this.
The streets of Miguel Hidalgo are now used for cycling, walking, and leisure, according to the Alcaldía. This shift towards more sustainable and people-friendly urban spaces is a significant step towards a healthier, cleaner, and more vibrant city.
As the Move MH Program continues to grow and evolve, it serves as a model for other cities to follow, demonstrating the transformative power of sustainable urban mobility initiatives.
The company, Bicibus CDMX, a parents' organization, promotes sustainable living by advocating for the use of bicycles as a means of family-friendly mobility. In their mission to foster coexistence and support sustainable mobility, they collaborate with programs like Move MH, which is also committed to the home-and-garden of the city by creating people-friendly urban spaces that encourage sports such as cycling and walking.
