Discourse with Artist Lars Breuer at Memorial Day held in Resurrection Church
The Hochsauerlandkreis is set to witness an intriguing inter-communal art project, titled "Kombination", which will run from September 14th to January 18th, 2026. This ambitious creation is the brainchild of Cologne-based artist Lars Breuer, and the participating communes are Arnsberg, Bestwig, Brilon, Meschede, Schmallenberg, and Sundern.
The project, funded by the Hochsauerlandkreis and Sparkasse Mitten im Sauerland, aims to explore the theme of "uproar" through art. Each commune will host an exhibition of Breuer's works, with Arnsberg showcasing the word pair "CONSENSUS - CONTRAST".
On September 14th, at 3 pm, the Cultural Office of the City of Arnsberg will host an artist talk by Lars Breuer in the Auferstehungskirche at Neumarkt Arnsberg. This historic church, the first Protestant church in otherwise Catholic-dominated Arnsberg, serves as a fitting backdrop for the discussion.
The Auferstehungskirche will also display a banner with the word pair "CONSENSUS - CONTRAST", a central theme in Breuer's works. Connections between word pairs that are closely linked to the place where they are shown are a significant aspect of his creations.
Arnsberg, with its diverse neighbourhoods and functions, requires cooperation and compromises. The city showcases a clear contrast within its cityscape, with civil servant city, industrial areas, half-timbered houses, classical facades, medieval alleys, modern houses, new settlements, and vast natural landscapes.
A discussion round with Lars Breuer, among others, is scheduled for September 21st at 6 pm on Kaiser-Otto-Platz in Meschede. The common closing event for the inter-communal cooperation project will take place on January 18th, 2026, at 11 am in the "Lenneatelier" in Schmallenberg.
The municipal reorganization 50 years ago combined the six communes from various districts, leading to the current inter-communal dynamics. The "Kombination" exhibition takes place simultaneously in all six participating communes, providing a unique opportunity for residents and visitors alike to engage with Breuer's thought-provoking art.
Despite extensive research, the financial details of the project "Kombination" by Lars Breuer in the cities Arnsberg, Bestwig, Brilon, Meschede, Schmallenberg, and Sundern remain undisclosed. However, the impact of this project on the region's artistic landscape and community dialogue is already evident.
