Heyo! Let's chat about Target's latest move!
Disney and Marvel themed bedding now available under Target's Pillowfort brand.
Target's in-house brand, Pillowfort, has teamed up with Disney and Marvel for an awesome collection of over 50 items! This collaboration includes hooded blankets, figural dolls and pillows, sheet sets, quilts, and even glow-in-the-dark comforters! Prices are kept accessible, with most items under $30 and the more expensive ones, like sheet sets, quilts, and comforters, priced under $65. The Disney and Marvel Pillowfort collection is available on Target's website right now and will reach most stores nationwide by late April.
This is Pillowfort's first time featuring Disney characters and Marvel superheroes in their collection, according to Target. Industry experts believe this collaboration is going to be a hit because of the affordable prices and the growing popularity of store brand products, particularly among the younger generation who love saving a buck.
Target has been working with Disney for some time now. Back in 2019, Target launched its first 25 Disney shop-in-shops. These in-store shops offer toys, games, apparel, and accessories. Today, there are over 200 such shops. In addition to that, Target collaborated with Marvel Studios' "Black Panther: Wakanda Forever;" and recently, they released a Disney100 Retro Reimagined collection.
Jill Sando, Target’s chief merchandising officer of apparel and accessories, said they are bringing the magic of Disney Princess characters and Marvel Super Heroes to kids' bedding and decor with this collection. They aim to deliver high-quality, affordable products that families love, and only Target's got them!
This move underscores Target's commitment to investing in its private labels. Target debuted Pillowfort in 2016, and now they have about 50 store brands across various categories. Some of their private labels bring in over $1 billion annually!
While Target's financial situation has been a bit rocky lately—missing Q3 expectations and lowering its guidance for the full fiscal year—their preview of fourth-quarter results suggested they did well during the holidays. Overall sales during November and December rose 2.8% year over year.
Oh, by the way, Target's low-priced Dealworthy brand, launched in February last year, was one of the fastest-growing private label brands in 2024! So, looks like Target's private-label strategy is really paying off!
