Ilse Neumann, the oldest known living woman in Saxony, Germany, recently celebrated her 111th birthday on July 23, 2025. Born in 1914, Ilse has lived a remarkable life in the town of Taucha.

Before her retirement, Ilse worked as a tailor, taking inspiration from the shop windows of the city's upscale stores to sew clothes she admired for herself. Despite limited financial resources, her dedication to her craft was unwavering.

Ilse remained unmarried and childless, but she found joy in caring for her neighbours' children. Many of these children grew to become close friends and companions over the years.

Ilse became the oldest living person in Saxony on September 30, 2024, following the death of the previous oldest resident, Irmgard Genthe.

On her special day, Ilse was joined by her family, care home employees, and the mayor of Taucha, Tobias Meier, for a birthday celebration. The event was held at an elderly care home in Taucha near Leipzig, where Ilse currently resides.

Ilse, who is known for her engaging personality, bid her well-wishers farewell with the words "And next year again."

In other news, escalators at Leipzig's market remain closed for several more months. S-Bahn travel prices in and around Leipzig will also increase from August. Meanwhile, new measures have been implemented at the Karl-Heine-Strasse construction site.

As Ilse continues to inspire the community with her resilience and spirit, we look forward to celebrating her 112th birthday with her next year.
