Everyday Heroes Showcased: Exhibition at the Allee Center in Hamm Highlights Remarkable Individuals

Everyday Heroes Honored in Hamm

In a moving display of recognition, the exhibition "Heroes in Hamm 2025" was unveiled at the Allee-Center on Friday, May 30. Running until July 5, the exhibition invites visitors to admire the large-format canvas portraits of ordinary residents who contribute significantly to their city's unity.

Acclaimed artist Michael Strogies, from Düsseldorf, has chosen to depict individuals from Hamm who demonstrate their commitment for the betterment of the city, regardless of the specifics of their engagement. Mayor Marc Herter, who was present at the opening, underscored the importance of acknowledging these individuals, stating, "These are the people who actively contribute to the fabric of Hamm's community."

Among the portraits are familiar faces like actor Cem Öztabakci, ice hockey player Julian Airich, and Carsten Dunke, former theater manager of Hamm's Cineplexx. In addition, there is Alexander Böhmer from the Star Wars Fan Force, a group that helps support the Ambulant Children and Youth Hospice Service. Taking part in the exhibition was a humbling experience for Böhmer, who said, "It's an honor to be recognized, but I don't personally feel like a hero. Anyone can be a hero—it just requires action."

Strogies, successful in organizing similar hero exhibitions in over 20 cities, aims to expand the Hamm exhibition during its run. After the finissage on July 5 at 3 pm, the original works will be auctioned on the website Heroes in Hamm 2025 - Heroes in Town, with the proceeds benefiting the Lippewave "Aktion Lichtblicke" and the WA-action.

As Hamm marks the 50th anniversary of becoming a large city, the exhibition serves as a poignant reminder of the extraordinary individuals who shape the city. In the words of Mayor Herter, "These people, who are deeply engaged and work to support and sustain a strong community, truly make Hamm a unique place."
