Excitement for outdoor enthusiasts! Arc'teryx has launched a new store in Berlin

Canadian outdoor brand Arc'teryx has made its German debut, opening its first branch in the heart of Berlin on Rosenthaler Straße on June 8, 2023. The decision to establish a presence in Berlin was driven by the city's unique climate and urban environment, which calls for specialized, high-performance rain gear.

Berlin's weather, characterised by persistent grey and wet conditions, necessitates durable, versatile products that can withstand the elements while maintaining a minimalist design and mountain-grade functionality. This aligns perfectly with Arc'teryx's brand ethos.

The Berlin outpost of Arc'teryx focuses primarily on the brand's subsidiary Veilance collection, a more fashionable line designed for urban terrain. The store's product offerings are engineered for performance in wet and unpredictable weather conditions, supporting activities such as urban exploring, trail running, and flatland cycling that are common in the area.

In addition to catering to outdoor athletes in Berlin and the surrounding flat regions of Germany, where high mountains are absent, Arc'teryx emphasises practicality and the long-lasting quality of its products. The brand aims to become "fully circular" by 2030, reintroducing discarded products into the production cycle.

The Berlin Arc'teryx store is divided into three main categories: trail running, snow sports, and climbing. Larger outdoor excursions, such as Grunewald trail runs and trips with snowboarding and skiing groups, will be available at the store.

To further engage with the local community, the store plans to offer a community programme, including free yoga classes, film screenings, keynote speeches, and safety workshops. Notable figures in the outdoor sports community, such as German alpinist Ines Papert, have already shown their support by attending the store's opening.

Arc'teryx is not only expanding its physical presence but also transitioning from a 100% wholesale model to a vertical brand, with the Berlin store being one of many brand stores to come. The brand has been available in European retail for 20 years and in Germany for at least 10 years.

As part of its philanthropic initiatives, Arc'teryx is working to give underrepresented minorities access to outdoor sports. The brand's commitment to sustainability is evident in the store's design, which uses reclaimed concrete waste to resonate with the city's architectural character and environmentally conscious consumers.

The Arc'teryx 'Apart' project in Paris involved training a group of girls to climb Mount Kilimanjaro, demonstrating the brand's dedication to empowering individuals through outdoor activities. The store's crest features a Berlin bear skeleton, modeled after the fossil in the Arc'teryx logo, symbolising the brand's connection to the city.
