Expansive unveiling of the latest cycling pathway

In the heart of Dreieich, a new bike street has been unveiled, marking an important step towards promoting cycling as a viable commuting option and reducing traffic congestion in the area. The new bike street, located in the Hengstbach facility between Falltorweg and Hengstbach Bridge, is set to serve as a key connection to the expanded direct cycling route FRM1 between Darmstadt and Frankfurt in the future.

First Councilor Holger Dechert highlighted the significance of this new bike street, stating that it provides a safe feeder route and an attractive starting point before the completion of FRM1. The new bike street is not just a commuting option, but also a strategic move to relieve congested streets leading to Frankfurt.

The Hengstbach facility in the Buchschlag district of Dreieich has been converted into this bike street, offering commuters an alternative to the Dreieichbahn. Cyclists may ride side by side on this new street, with a minimum distance of 1.50 meters to be maintained when overtaking. Car traffic is permitted on the new bike street, but a maximum speed of 30 km/h applies to ensure the safety of cyclists.

To further ensure the safety of schoolchildren, a crossing aid has been installed at the Hengstbach facility, serving the Selma-Lagerlöf School. Further construction enhancements are planned for spring to make the crossing even safer. The crossing aid is a testament to the city's commitment to the safety and well-being of its residents, particularly its numerous elementary school students.

The city of Dreieich is actively focusing on building attractive cycling connections as a way to reduce traffic congestion. This new bike street is a part of this larger plan, which includes the development of a mobility hub at the intersection of FRM1 and FRM9 cycle highways near Neu-Isenburg. This project was part of a student design task during the 2025 semester at TU Darmstadt, indicating active planning and enhancement of cycling infrastructure along the FRM1 route.

Promoting cycling in Dreieich is not just a strategy to relieve congested streets, but also a step towards providing an alternative to the Dreieichbahn for commuters. The city's efforts extend beyond this new bike street, with bicycles, pedelecs up to 25 km/h, and e-scooters all allowed on the new bike street.

In the words of First Councilor Holger Dechert, attractive cycling connections are an important contribution for the city. The opening of this new bike street is a testament to Dreieich's commitment to sustainable and efficient transportation solutions, and a promising step towards a greener future.

What about integrating science into promoting health-and-wellness, fitness-and-exercise, and lifestyle choices associated with this new bike street in Dreieich? For instance, incorporating educational signage about the benefits of cycling on health, offering cycling safety workshops to residents, or organizing roundtable discussions about home-and-garden improvements that promote eco-friendly transportation options.

This new bike street in Dreieich is more than just a commuting option; it's a statement about prioritizing sustainable lifestyle choices that align with the principles of modern science. By embracing cycling as a viable commuting option, the city is encouraging residents to adopt a healthier, more environmentally friendly way of living.

In the longer run, with the completion of FRM1, this bike street serving as a key connection can act as a catalyst for further integrating cycling into everyday lifestyle choices in Dreieich, promoting a healthier, greener, and more sustainable lifestyle for all residents.
