Exploring the Animal Kingdom on Foot
The Suffolk Wildlife Trust is hosting a "Welcome Day" event at Lackford Lakes, offering an exciting opportunity for everyone to embark on guided wildlife walks and learn about the local flora and fauna with the help of Wildlife Guides.
The guided walks, led by the Warden, will take place at 10:30 AM and 2:00 PM on an unspecified date. The meeting point for the event is pencils.reckons.complies.
For those who are members of the Suffolk Wildlife Trust, the event is free of charge. For non-members, the cost is £5 per person, which is refundable if you sign up as a member on the day. Booking is essential to attend, and you can do so online.
The Lackford Lakes Visitor Centre (IP28 6HX) is the starting point for the walks, where you can also hire binoculars and pick up a free wildlife activity sheet suitable for all ages. The on-site café offers a range of refreshments, including vegetarian, vegan, and gluten-free options.
Regarding accessibility, assistance dogs are allowed on most trails, except the Sayer's Breck trail, where all dogs are permitted but must be kept on leads to protect the habitat. Unfortunately, dogs are not allowed in the visitor centre, blue Trail near the lakes, or hides.
Remember to wear walking shoes or boots, and dress according to the weather, as the trails at Lackford Lakes are accessible but not paved or tarmacked and can become more difficult to traverse following poor weather.
