festival-goers undeterred by unpredictable weather at Zakk Street Festival

Unusual weather conditions marked the Zakk Street Festival on Sunday (27.8.), characterized by shifting sun and clouds throughout the day. Despite the intermittent risk of rain, attendees remained undaunted and enthusiastically participated in the event.

As preparations for the organizers began shortly after midnight, over 70 vehicles disregarded the posted no-parking restrictions on Fichtenstraße. Tow trucks were called to remove the offending vehicles, a measure taken by the Zakk itself, rather than the local authority. It appears that some of the vehicles had been improperly towed the previous year as well.

Despite the challenges in parking, nearly all stands were set up and operational by 11 am, when the festival officially commenced. Bargain hunters had already begun their perusal of goods and information being offered by a variety of organizations, including Amnesty International, the SPD, Greens, Left and Pirate parties, the Schauspielhaus, the Forum Freies Theater, Lebenshilfe, the Children's Protection Association, and more.

Organizations such as the Rainbow Family of the AWO also had stands, providing information about their work. Some notable exhibits included the Kulturliste's crowdfunding campaign, as well as an exhibition in Room 4 at the Zakk on the first floor featuring artistic works by people with addiction issues.

Guided tours by Kaspar Michels from FlingerPfad, which were unavailable last year due to popularity, faced a similar issue this year, overwhelmed by the large turnout of interested parties. Musical entertainment was provided throughout the day on the open-air stage and continued into the evening with Aris Valentino, André Tebbe Band, Dharma Bums, Suzan Köcher's Suprafon, and more. DJs Lakay and Julius Sturm provided entertainment on Pinienstraße, near the long drink stand, offering a relaxing ambiance to enjoy the festival.

The Zakk team has become well-versed in adapting to varying weather conditions over the years, and the occasional challenges and surprises are now a routine part of the festival's planning process.

Festival attendees shows resilience even amidst unpredictable weather, maintaining their enthusiasm throughout the Zakk Street Festival. In between browsing home-and-garden and shopping stands, they could learn about various organizations like Amnesty International or the Rainbow Family of the AWO, and attend exhibitions, such as the one featuring art by people with addiction issues.
