Aline Abboud Transitions from Journalism to Government Role

Aline Abboud, a well-known figure in German journalism, is set to embark on a new journey as she takes up the role of Press Spokesperson and Head of the Press Office at the Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development, starting August 18.

Abboud's career in journalism spans several years, with her most recent stint being part of the moderator team for ARD's "Tagesthemen" from 2021 to 2024. Prior to this, she worked as an editor and moderator at ZDF. However, in November last year, she announced that she would not be returning to "Tagesthemen" after her parental leave, citing the relocation of her family's centre of life to Berlin as the reason for her decision.

Abboud became a mother in April 2024. The announcement of her new role at the ministry was made on the ministry's Instagram, with Abboud expressing her excitement about the international topics her new role will involve.

Beyond August 18, there is no information available about Abboud's plans for her role at the Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development. The search results do not provide any details about her specific professional plans after leaving "Tagesthemen".

Before her career in journalism, Abboud visited Lebanon since her childhood, a fact that might have played a role in her interest in international affairs. She also studied Arabistics in Leipzig.

Abboud is a native of Berlin, having graduated from high school in the capital. Her father is Lebanese and her mother is an East Berliner.

Abboud is also an author, having published the book "Barefoot in Teta's Garden" at the beginning of the year. The book does not appear to be directly related to her new role at the ministry.

Despite the lack of specific biographical information about her education or earlier roles prior to her spokesperson position, Abboud's career trajectory is summarized mainly as a journalist transitioning into a governmental press role. If more detailed specifics on her background are required, such as academic qualifications or major journalistic milestones, these would require further specialized research or access to more comprehensive biographical sources.

In her new role at the Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development, Aline Abboud's focus may shift from journalism to international topics, reflecting a possible transition in her lifestyle. Her home-and-garden book, titled "Barefoot in Teta's Garden," suggests a personal interest that might coexist with her government duties.
