In the quiet town of Yuzufovo, a heartwarming story unfolded when a scrawny kitten named Mork, who was found in critical condition on the streets of Brest in 2021, made an unexpected return to her new family.

Mork's owner, Inn, had initially taken her in for fostering in Minsk, but after nursing her back to health, Inn couldn't resist the bond that had formed and decided to adopt her. However, when the family moved to a private house in Yuzufovo and hadn't yet installed the fence due to bad weather, Mork and another rescued street cat, Ginger, managed to escape.

The family was devastated, and Ginger, in particular, showed signs of worry, pacing before Mork's disappearance. Posters were put up, neighbours were asked, and the family waited by the terrace door for Mork's return.

Two days later, Mork appeared at the family's house, sitting under the door seemingly unaffected by her disappearance. Upon Mork's return, Ginger approached her and showed affection, a relief for the family who had been worried about the pair.

Mork has since become a cherished member of the family, bringing a sense of peace and even occasional gifts, such as a mouse, to her owners. She sleeps with them under the blanket and eats special food and pates.

The family, who had initially had concerns about getting a pet, now consider Mork a part of the family. They finished building the fence for their cats after Mork's disappearance, ensuring that they could go outside only under supervision.

Research suggests that cats like Mork find their way home after getting lost primarily through a remarkable homing instinct. This instinct involves two key abilities: detecting Earth's magnetic fields (geomagnetic navigation) and following familiar scent trails. Cats can sense magnetic fields via specialized cells in their bodies, enabling them to orient themselves and navigate over long distances to return to their original home. Additionally, they utilize their highly sensitive sense of smell, which is about 14 times stronger than humans', to track familiar scents left by themselves or their environment.

This remarkable homing instinct, combined with Mork's strong bond with her family, ensured that she would find her way back home, proving that even in the face of adversity, the bond between a cat and its family can never be broken.

In Yuzufovo, where Mork found a cherished place within the family, the cats' living spaces were enhanced with a newly built fence, designed to ensure their safety. As relationships blossomed between the pets, Mork was seen to contribute to the family's home-and-garden lifestyle by occasionally presenting gifts, such as a caught mouse, to her owners, enriching their lifestyle and strengthening the bonds within their household.
