Kate Middleton, the Princess of Wales, is using a series of animated films to raise awareness about the significance of early childhood development. The films, released by her Royal Foundation Centre for Early Childhood, aim to emphasise the power of nurturing interactions and their extraordinary value in a rapidly changing world.

Established by William and Kate's foundation in 2021, the Centre for Early Childhood serves as a hub for Kate's ongoing focus on early childhood development. The work centres on the "golden opportunity" of early childhood to build a strong emotional, social, and psychological foundation, which Kate describes as fundamental for future life success and happiness.

The animated film series, released in 2025, explains the importance of nurturing interactions and supports caregivers, professionals, and families by offering evidence-based guidance that helps children's social and emotional growth. Each video focuses on an aspect of the importance of nurturing interactions in infancy.

Images of Kate attending a creative briefing in June have been shared to coincide with the release of the films, which are now available on the Centre for Early Childhood's YouTube channel. Kate Middleton was involved in the development of the films behind the scenes.

The Centre for Early Childhood is collaborating with universities, charities, and professional bodies to incorporate the films into training and practice across the country. The films are designed for use by people who work with babies, children, and families to facilitate conversations with parents and caregivers.

Since Kate, as a royal, cannot engage directly in political advocacy, her focus is on raising awareness and education to shift societal understanding and practice around early childhood development. The initiative is part of a broader effort under the Royal Foundation to address major social challenges by mobilising research, partnerships, and scalable impact strategies.

In January 2023, the Centre for Early Childhood launched the Shaping Us campaign, which emphasises everyday moments of connection as transformative opportunities for society and individuals. The ongoing campaign aims to elevate early childhood development as a vital societal priority by fostering knowledge, nurturing family and community practices, and supporting professionals working with the youngest children.

Victoria Murphy, a contributing editor at Town & Country and an expert on the British Royal Family, has reported on Kate Middleton's work extensively, having interviewed Prince Harry. In 2021, Victoria authored the book The Queen: A Life in Pictures.

As Kate Middleton takes a break from royal duties to spend time with her family, her commitment to early childhood development remains unwavering. The Princess's ongoing work through the Royal Foundation Centre for Early Childhood continues to make a significant impact, fostering a greater understanding of the critical importance of early childhood development in shaping our future.
