Bettina Bernadotte Steps Down as Co-Manager of Mainau Island on Lake Constance
Leader relinquishes administrative role on Mainau Island - Leader of Island Relinquishes Island and Mainland Roles on Mainau Island
That's quite the shakeup on Lake Constance! Countess Bettina Bernadotte, who has been at the helm of the Mainau Island since 2007, has decided to step down as co-managing director. But don't worry, her brother, Count Björn Bernadotte, will still be there to keep things running smoothly.
According to the announcement, Countess Bettina wants to make room for a blend of family-related and external expertise in the management of Mainau GmbH. She plans to stick around, though, serving on the foundation's board and maintaining her connection to the island.
You might be wondering, what's so special about this island? Well, the Mainau Island near Konstanz is nothing short of a tourist magnet. Known as the "Flower Island," it draws in over a million visitors each year with its magnificent park and garden facilities, Baroque castle, palm house, and butterfly house spread over approximately 45 hectares.
On a more practical note, the Mainau GmbH employs around 150 full-time staff throughout the year, along with 30 trainees. Plus, around 200 seasonal workers join the team every year. The sole shareholder of this flourishing business is the non-profit Lennart Bernadotte Foundation.
As for who will take over the reins, a new external manager is already in the works. The search is on, and we're eager to see who steps up to manage this popular tourist attraction!
The community policy and lifestyle of Mainau Island may undergo changes with the departure of Countess Bettina Bernadotte, as a new external manager is set to bring fresh perspectives. Meanwhile, home-and-garden enthusiasts might find solace in the continuity of the island's elaborate park, garden facilities, and historic structures, thanks to the involvement of Count Björn Bernadotte.
