This is my annual invitation to join Marty's Fall Home Tour, currently hosted by none other than the beloved blogger from A Stroll Thru Life. If you haven't participated before, get ready to be inspired! Each season, Marty gathers 25+ bloggers ready to share their homes, catering to a range of tastes. And for those joining me from Hymns And Verses, a hearty welcome! Doreen and I have been virtually acquainted for years, and I always admire her culinary prowess, DIY projects, and home decoration skills. Be sure to check out her fall tour right here.
Now, off we go on our journey!
My living room has undergone a series of DIY projects and decorative changes over the years. While not all have aged gracefully, each project holds a special place in my heart. I've found myself evolving towards a more cottage style with a dash of grand millennial touches. I feel more content and that I've finally achieved my interior design stride.
When deciding on a fall color palette, I always start thinking about the tones I want to incorporate. My profound love for these dynamic shades has led me to write a blog post featuring 12 different autumn color palettes, which you can view right here, if you're searching for inspiration for your own space.
I've experimented with some unconventional palettes, but none compare to the burgundy and blue combination I present today.
Orange, a traditional fall hue, has been banished from my personal space this autumn. 😊
In past years, I'd bring out every autumn-themed item when decorating for the season. Looking back on those designs, I now cringe.
My contemporary approach to seasonal and holiday decorating involves tasteful additions that complement my everyday décor, rather than complete overhauls. No more fireplaces overflowing with every rustic item. Instead, I've accentuated the burgundy and blue accents in large white vases with beautiful fall leaf branches, adorning them with a few golden faux pampas grass branches in a pretty blue and white vase.
A tip when styling a room with high ceilings is to use tall, impactful pieces on the mantel. Filling the space with lots of small items will only make the area appear cluttered. By keeping my live plants in place, the continued green elements serve as a reminder that this is my everyday look, rather than a change for the fall season.
One aspect of my home that I change with each season are the pillows and blankets on my recliners and couch. Pillows often inspire my color choices, and the thrill of mixing patterns never fails!
Decorating Tip: Incorporate at least three patterns in a room, using varying sizes, similar colors, and a mix of simple and intricate designs.
And this lovely blue and white pumpkin plate is the cherry on top of my autumnal design!
Although I've found a clever storage solution for my pillows, I continue to struggle with my addiction.
In keeping with my everyday fall decorating style, the primary transformation on my coffee table lies in its arrangement. I swapped out summer-specific items with inspirational autumn elements, such as a sweet arrangement of burgundy mums in a pretty blue and white vase, a blue and white checked bowl filled with faux pears, and a thrifted blue and white dish featuring acorns.
In the background, you can see my console table transformation, where I replaced the summer shells with a beautiful light burgundy velvet pumpkin in a bowl, partnered with a charming blue and white ginger jar.
All the subtle changes I've made this fall are purposeful expressions of welcoming the season into my home.
I hope these ideas spark some creativity in your own home's autumnal transformation, but now it's time to move on to the next stop on the tour. Prepare yourself for the incredible budget-friendly styles that await at Southern Home and Hospitality. Enjoy your next stop in the tour!
