Local government of Mühlheim granted accolade for family-oriented human resources strategy
Mühlheim Receives "Family-Friendly Employer" Certificate
The city of Mühlheim, a community that values families as the cornerstone of society, has been awarded the prestigious "Family-Friendly Employer" certificate from the state of Hesse. This recognition, presented by Interior Minister Roman Poseck in June 2025, underscores Mühlheim's commitment to creating an environment that prioritises the well-being of its employees.
Mayor Dr. Alexander Krey and the city's employees have collaborated with the works council to develop a fixed agreement on the further development of a family-friendly personnel policy. This agreement, based on specific goals and measures defined in a workshop, covers the areas of leadership and culture, working hours and workplace, information, and offers for employees.
The focus of Mühlheim's efforts will be on flexibility and health promotion in these areas. The city, which already offers various internal and external information and feedback channels, mobile working, flexible hours, network, advice, and health offers, such as the Egym Wellpass, will continue to build upon these foundations.
The agreement, if fulfilled, will lead to a four-year re-certification period. However, the Interior Ministry will conduct a review in the summer of 2027 to ensure that the agreed-upon goals and measures have been met.
Birgit Wengenroth, the city's internal women's and equal opportunities officer, emphasises the importance of this certification. She stresses that work-life balance and family-friendliness are not just buzzwords for Mühlheim, but a genuine commitment to its employees.
For more detailed information about Mühlheim's goals and measures for the implementation of the Family-Friendly Employer certificate by 2027, particularly regarding flexibility, health promotion, and work-life balance, we recommend checking the city’s official website or contacting their human resources or sustainability department directly.
In light of the city's commitment to prioritizing employee well-being, other aspects such as lifestyle improvements and family dynamics are expected to be prioritized as well. For instance, home-and-garden programs that promote work-life balance could be introduced, alongside relationships seminars aimed at fostering a more harmonious work environment. The city's ongoing focus on flexibility and health promotion may encompass these areas, making Mühlheim not only a family-friendly employer but also a advocate for overall well-being and family dynamics.
