Los Angeles Unveils Seasonal Activities for Upcoming Months
Discover the rich cultural heritage of Japan this holiday season in Los Angeles, as the city offers a variety of events and experiences to immerse yourself in.
From now until January 5, 2020, the traveling exhibition Japan 47 Artisans will be on display at our website Los Angeles. This exhibition, organised by the renowned design studio D&DEPARTMENT PROJECT, showcases the work of 47 young artisans from each region of Japan, highlighting the nation's rich craft heritage and featuring objects and exhibits illustrating the concept of sustainable "Long-Life Design".
Related workshops and events for the exhibition will be announced before its departure in January. On December 14, a Japanese Food Lab focused on mochi is offered, where participants can learn about and make mochi, followed by tasting various types of ozoni. A "Movie & Bites" event on December 7 features a screening of "Kampai! For the Love of Sake" and a conversation with the director and a local sake expert, followed by a sake tasting.
The 5th floor of our website Los Angeles hosts a Japanese restaurant, relaxing library, and event venue, along with spectacular views of Hollywood and Downtown Los Angeles. INN ANN, translating to "hidden retreat", offers a high-end, seasonal Japanese tasting menu dining experience, rooted in the revered Japanese culinary philosophy. The menu at INN ANN incorporates local ingredients and embraces Californian farmers' market elements.
INN ANN fosters discovery and curiosity, showcasing Japanese culture, traditions, and rich heritage through its cuisine. A lacquer workshop and demonstration with featured artisan Jun Tashiro was held on October 30.
Our website Los Angeles, an innovative, worldwide project conceived by the Japanese Ministry of Foreign Affairs, seeks to nurture a deeper understanding and appreciation of Japan in the international community. The 2nd floor of our website Los Angeles features a gallery space, where the interactive programs celebrating the Japanese holiday spirit are available for visitors.
While specific details about Japanese holiday celebrations in Los Angeles during the winter season are limited, a New Year's celebration in Little Tokyo took place on January 1, 2020, organised by the Japanese American community, but details about exhibitions or dining are not specified. The Nisei Week Japanese Festival, held annually in the historic Little Tokyo District, occurs in August rather than December-January, including cultural exhibits and entertainment. Downtown Los Angeles offers various dining and festive experiences during the holiday season, with new restaurant openings and holiday light shows, but these are more general LA events and not specifically tied to Japanese holiday celebrations.
Seasonal dining is available at INN ANN restaurant during the holiday season, making it an ideal destination for a unique and authentic Japanese dining experience. So, come and join us this holiday season at Los Angeles to celebrate the Japanese culture and artistry, and immerse yourself in the rich heritage and traditions of Japan.
