The Pforzheim Railway Enthusiasts (PEF) recently held their exhibition days at the Weißenstein station, showcasing a vast array of model trains and railway culture. The former station, now serving as a museum, has been the home of the PEF since its restoration in 1988.
Over the past weekend, visitors flocked to the Weißenstein station to witness the display of trains, with several thousand attending the exhibition days. The motto for this year's event, 'LGB Running Days,' was chosen to honour the 50th anniversary of the garden model railway LGB.
The main attraction was a large LGB model railway layout in gauge 1, set up in the goods hall of the station. Only models of the Rhaetian Railway from Switzerland ran on this layout over the weekend. In the coming weekends, smaller modifications will allow German narrow-gauge railways and American railways to run on the same layout.
Trains of various gauges run on four floors in the Weißenstein station, from the basement to the attic. One of the highlights was a replica of the Maerklin layout, originally presented at the Leipzig Spring Fair in 1939. The replica at the Weißenstein station features largely original track, train, and model material.
The PEF, with approximately 100 members, maintain and expand the display at the Weißenstein station. The exhibition runs from 10 am to 6 pm each day, and the income from the exhibitions and a traditional book sale in November benefits the PEF and the maintenance of the Weißenstein station.
The Weißenstein station is easily accessible by car, city bus line 3, and the Kulturbahn/Nagoldtalbahn. The PEF warmly invite everyone to visit and experience the magic of model trains that continue to amaze both young and old during exhibitions.
