MOBI marked its first year milestone, commemorated by DVB.
Dresden's popular MOBIworld bike-sharing scheme is set to grow significantly, with the addition of over 400 new rental bikes and three new MOBI points by the end of the year. This expansion, announced by the Dresden Public Transport Authority (DVB), aims to support sustainable urban mobility and provide more options for residents and visitors to use electric bikes for short trips.
Since its inception in 2018, the demand for MOBIworld rental bikes in Dresden has more than doubled. What started as 360,000 rentals per year has grown to over two million today. To cater to this growing demand, a total of 60 MOBI points have been set up across the city, with over 1550 rental bikes available at these locations.
The expansion plan includes the addition of approximately 150 new shared e-bikes, bringing the total fleet size in Dresden to about 750 e-bikes. Moreover, cargo bikes for renting have been introduced, further enhancing the service's versatility.
The celebration of this expansion and the fifth anniversary of MOBIworld in Dresden will take place as a family festival on the Wasaplatz this Friday. The event, which starts at 10 am and ends at 6 pm, will feature competitions in bike balancing and car packing, on-site bike repairs, and a birthday cake.
The DVB encourages everyone to join in the festivities and experience the convenience and sustainability of MOBIworld's bike-sharing system. Whether you're a resident or a visitor, there's no better time to hop on a bike and explore Dresden's vibrant streets.
In conjunction with the growing demand for MOBIworld rental bikes, the home-and-garden sector will witness changes with increased outdoor-living spaces catering to residents' lifestyle preferences. As more citizens choose sustainable transportation options offered by MOBIworld, Dresden could soon witness an uptick in home designs incorporating bike storage facilities and bike-friendly landscaping.
As the MOBIworld bike-sharing scheme expands, the city of Dresden embraces a lifestyle shift towards greener and more active living. By encouraging electric bike usage for short trips, residents and visitors alike can broaden their exploration of the city while promoting a sustainable lifestyle.
