Yekaterinburg's Ural Branch of Pushkin's State Museum of Fine Arts Shifts Base 🎨🏛️
The urban spirit of Yekaterinburg just got a fresh new vibe! The Ural branch of the State Museum of Fine Arts, famously known as GMI, has thrown open its doors at a new location – Lenin St. 50, in the heart of the city 💰 Stadium Central (City Center). The museum's ex-venue on Dobrolyubova St. has seen better days, being bought by the Tyumen company, "Profit" in 2023 💸.
But do not worry, art lovers! GMI is still as vibrant as ever. The museum's inaugural exhibition project on the new site – "Club of Builders: From Details to Eternity," is a fitting homage to its new home – the former Palace of Culture of Builders, a constructivist monument 🏛️.
This shift is more than just a change of address. GMI has moved into the heart of the city's history, residing where the culture of builders once reigned. The mansion on Dobrolyubova, whereas charming, saw better days, being put up for sale by city authorities for a whopping 190 million rubles in 2023 🔑.
City Center has undergone a facelift – it's no longer your average shopping center 🛍️. Home since 1998 to the company, "Ural-Premier Trust and Consulting," the space is set to rethink its historical and cultural aspects, reshaping its purpose.
Part of this transformation includes a slew of new tenants – Fund for Urban Initiatives, Design Code of Yekaterinburg project, Art Space and Marketplace "Arka," each contributing to the city's cultural and aesthetic landscape.
Steeped in history and culture, Yekaterinburg is a city that values its heritage. GMI, first to dive into contemporary art in the city, has been a significant player in this respect 🎨. The museum hosts exhibitions, artist talks, lectures, concerts, and events such as the Young Artist Laboratory, annual portfolio review, and the Ural Industrial Biennial 🌟.
