A Taste of Grandeur: NYC's Hidden Gem Unveils an Elegant Café at The Frick

Step into the world of opulence as the historic Frick Collection on the Upper East Side reveals its latest addition - a refined new café dubbed Westmoreland. After a four-year renovation, the museum reopened its doors in April, offering visitors a taste of Gilded Age elegance alongside over 1,800 artworks.

Westmoreland, the brainchild of Selldorf Architects, occupies 50 seats and underwent a stunning transformation by Bryan O'Sullivan Studio. It boasts an exclusive mural by Darren Waterston, ensuring an experience as decadent as the Frick family's private Pullman train car. Axel Rüger, the Anna-Maria and Stephen Kellen Director, said of the grand revelation, "As we continue to celebrate the Frick's grand reopening, we are thrilled to debut the museum's first-ever café."

Dining in Elegance

The culinary endeavor at Westmoreland is headed by Union Square Events, with a focus on seasonal, farm-fresh ingredients and peak-season produce. The menu entices with soups, salads, pastas, and, of course, a selection of pastries. According to Nickolas Martinez, USE's Vice President of Culinary Operations, "Westmoreland offers attentive table service to create an experience that feels both intimate and elevated."

While marveling at the museum's extensive offerings may leave you famished, there's now a captivating respite to fuel your discussion about the collection. On June 18th, the Ronald S. Lauder Exhibition Galleries will open, offering visitors even more to explore and discuss over a quick bite. Reservations for the café can be made on the museum's website.

A Hidden Gem Underneath

While the story of The Frick's secret bowling alley in the basement lurks quietly in the shadows, it's been spotted in a few nooks and crannies. Inspiring venues such as The Gutter - a vintage-style bowling alley and lounge in Austin - which was modeled after the Frick's basement lanes, hint at the bowling alley's historic connection to the museum's architecture. Despite a lack of detailed documentation, the bowling alley stands as a unique and intriguing element of The Frick's architectural and cultural heritage.

In the soul of refined elegance, a café named Westmoreland invites guests to savor its delectable food-and-drink offerings. The lifestyle experience here promises an event filled with seasonal delights, as Union Square Events crafts a dining adventure inspired by home-and-garden freshness. Beyond the tantalizing repast, the ambiance echoes the grandeur of a bygone era, mirroring the museum's artworks and architecture - an experience as enchanting as the Frick family's private Pullman train car.
