Nine-day festivities grace Paderborn for Lirbori celebration
From July 26th to August 3rd, the charming city of Paderborn will be filled with the vibrant energy of the Libori Festival, one of the country's oldest and most cherished festivals. This annual event, deeply rooted in religious tradition and local culture, honors Saint Liborius, the patron saint of Paderborn, and blends faith with communal celebration.
Throughout the festival, the historic downtown will come alive with a bustling market offering traditional German food like sausages and beer, amusement rides, cultural performances, and music. The festival is a major social and cultural event, attracting large crowds and creating a festive atmosphere (Sources [2], [4]).
The festival's opening ceremony will feature the elevation of the Golden Shrine and salute shots in front of the town hall, followed by the classic rides such as the Music Express, Auto Scooter, and various children's carousels. The Pottmarkt will host over 140 stalls offering a variety of goods including pottery, knives, household items, clothing, and culinary delights (Source [3]).
The Libori Lounge will be situated at the Juhenplatz, and international specialties will be available at the "Plaza Europa". The fairground on Libori Hill spans 1.6 kilometers and offers rides like the "Europa-Rad", "Excalibur", and "Mama Caramba" (Source [1]).
The closing ceremony of the festival will be marked by the grand Sparkassen-Musik-Feuerwerk, a spectacular fireworks display accompanied by the music of Radio Hochstift (Source [5]). The festival will culminate with the last Fassbieranstich, performed by Mayor Michael Dreier in the "Paderborner Almhütte" festival tent (Source [6]).
During the festival, the city center will observe Sunday shopping hours from 13:00 to 18:00. Headphone parties will occur at the Platz der kleinen Künste, and concerts will take place on the Kulturbrunnen stage (Source [7]).
