North Rhine-Westphalia's 'Culture Backpack' Introduces Minimum Fee for Artists
North Rhine-Westphalia's Culture Backpack program in Moenchengladbach has been thriving with annual support of around 75,000 euros for 13 years. This year, a new feature introduces a binding minimum fee of 55 euros per hour for professional artists.
The program, which runs until October 31st, offers a wide range of cultural activities for children and youth. These include dance, performance, shadow theater, art installations, instrument building, and shared pottery oven projects. All offers are free for participants.
Birte Wehmeier, deputy director of the cultural office, has praised the variety and quality of project ideas submitted. Irina Pauli, the program's coordinator, encourages institutions and artists to submit creative project ideas. First-time applicants are advised to consult with the cultural office prior to submission.
The Moenchengladbach Culture Backpack program is open to cultural institutions, associations, and educational or youth organizations. Applications must be submitted by October 31, 2025. The new binding minimum fee for professional artists aims to recognize their valuable contributions to the program.
