Online Ordering of Tonnes of Garbage: Residents of Witteners Given the Convenience to Purchase Garbage Collection Services as Required

The city of Witten, Germany has introduced a new online service, enabling residents to manage their trash cans more conveniently from the comfort of their homes. Through the city's official website, witten.de, homeowners or their management companies can register, deregister, or adjust the size of their trash, biowaste, or paper bins.

From the homepage, navigate to "Services" and "A" or search for "trash can" to access the online application. Alternatively, the form for submitting requests in paper format is available as a PDF download. Residents can also continue to send their requests via email to [email protected]. Changes will become effective from the first of the following month.

In case of uncertainty regarding the appropriate size of trash cans, residents can find relevant information on the city's website. Waste consultant Dunja Rohleder suggests that the size of bins typically depends on the number of people registered on a property, with an average assumption of 20 liters of waste per person per week. For those uncertain about their current bin capacity, the city's bin service can help; send an email or call 02302 581-3918 to inquire.

Tenants wishing to change their trash can size must contact their landlord, as they cannot apply for the change themselves. Yellow bins must be requested from the AHE, not the city.

The city's website offers additional waste-related information, including waste and environmental education programs in kindergartens and schools, waste consultation for businesses and private households, the waste calendar 2025, and the fee schedule. Residents can stay informed about the city's daily news, services, and features by signing up for the free newsletter. Upon signing up, they agree to the advertising agreement.

It is recommended to contact the local government or waste management department directly to obtain the most accurate and up-to-date information about the online waste management services in Witten.

  1. For a change in the size of their trash bins, tenants should reach out to their landlord, while homeowners or property management can adjust their bins through the city's online service on the home-and-garden section of witten.de.
  2. In need of advice on the most suitable bin size for their lifestyle, residents can seek guidance from Dunja Rohleder, the city's waste consultant, or contact the city's bin service, as the size typically depends on the number of people registered on a property and their average weekly waste production.
