Retail giant Best Buy to initiate Ikea in-store outlets as testing ground
Ikea and Best Buy have announced a unique partnership that will see mini-showrooms, or "shop-in-shop" concepts, being introduced within select Best Buy stores across Florida and Texas. These spaces, approximately 1,000 square feet each, will showcase Ikea kitchen and laundry room furnishings integrated with Best Buy’s appliances and electronics [1][2][3].
This marks Ikea’s first retail collaboration with another U.S. retailer, signifying a strategic expansion into Best Buy’s established store footprint and customer base. For Best Buy, it represents a diversification beyond traditional electronics retail, offering complementary home furnishing solutions and extending its appliance expertise into lifestyle curation [1][4][5].
The collaboration will see Ikea's products and services being made available at another retailer in the U.S. for the first time. Ikea U.S. Chief Operations Officer Rob Olson stated that the collaboration will create a one-stop destination for customers to design their dream kitchen, storage solutions, or laundry space with ease [6].
The new Ikea stores will be formatted for planning and pickup. Two of the launch locations will also serve as free pickup points for most Ikea orders. Ikea co-workers will support customers in planning and ordering home furnishings, while Best Buy's blue shirt employees will provide advice on electronics [7].
The partnership will allow customers to experience a seamless blend of technology and design, as they plan and equip their kitchens and laundry spaces with affordable, functional furniture, smart appliances, and technology [1][2][3][4].
Best Buy's first quarter revenue declined 0.9% year over year to $8.8 billion. The company has lowered its full-year guidance due to the evolving trade policy landscape, now expecting a revenue range from $41.1 billion to $41.9 billion [8].
Patrick McGinnis, Best Buy’s Chief Merchandising Officer, stated that the partnership will show shoppers what's truly possible in their homes like never before [9]. This collaboration reflects evolving consumer preferences for integrated, experiential shopping environments.
Ikea U.S. updated its loyalty rewards program in May, allowing shoppers to earn points on purchases and various engagements that can be exchanged for rewards such as free food and purchase discounts [10]. The new Ikea stores will be located in Pennsylvania, Maryland, Oregon, Arizona, and California, in addition to the 10 Best Buy stores in Florida and Texas [11].
