Setting Sail with the Royals: Frederik X. and Mary aboard Dannebrog
King embarks on a voyage with the royal vessel - Setting sail on the monarch's vessel
Heads up, folks! This summer, King Frederik X. (56) and Queen Mary (53) embark on a traditional Danish royal journey. They’re setting sail on the historic yacht Dannebrog, just like their predecessor, Christian IX. (1818-1906), back in the 19th century! The 2025 season kicked off with a sunny voyage from Nordre Toldbod in Copenhagen on the 7th of May. Real royal fans can catch a glimpse of the action on Instagram.
A Summer Filled with Grace
Oh, what a spectacle! The Dannebrog's departure was marked by 27 cannon shots, followed by a warm welcome by Kronborg Castle in Helsingør. Snaps from the event show the couple grinning ear to ear, waving to the crowds and enjoying some private moments on board. Queen Mary opted for a chic, floral midiskirt in blue and white, complemented by a dark blue hat and a matchy wrap blazer. King Frederik, as always, appeared smartly in uniform.
Check out those pics—it's clear as day this summer voyage is an age-old royal custom!
Beyond the Dannebrog: Royal Engagements in 2025
After setting sail on the Dannebrog, the royals are heading to the Faroe Islands from June 11 to 13, 2025. Get ready, because this jaunt marks their first major tour of the year. The adventure commences in the municipality of Frederikshavn on the island of Jutland, before hopping over to Thisted on August 26 and Læsø on August 27. The tour will conclude on the island of Samsø.
Did we mention that Crown Prince Frederik and Crown Princess Mary are members of the Danish royal family? They call the iconic and historic Amalienborg Palace home in the heart of Copenhagen. Their residence within the complex is that of Frederik VIII's Palace, which serves as the private quarters for the couple while the palace accommodates other royal family members too[5].
There's more to this journey, but we can't give away all the secrets! Stay tuned for updates on the royals' royal travels, and don't forget to follow them on Instagram for the latest tidbits.
