Sylverberg Kindergarten Launches Unique 'Fuchsbau' Forest Group for Young Learners

Sylverberg Kindergarten in Hamm has launched a unique 'Fuchsbau' forest group for children aged 3 to 6. This group, which follows principles of forest and Montessori pedagogy, encourages independence and creative problem-solving. A special wagon serves as a shelter on rainy or cold days, and the approximately 10,000 square meters of forest area on the grounds provides ample space for outdoor learning.

The 'Fuchsbau' group was inaugurated in early September by Mayor Marc Herter, who helped set up and furnish the group's wagon. Children in this group spend most of their time outdoors, even in harsh weather conditions, fostering resilience and a deep connection with nature. The pedagogical approach also emphasizes sustainable development education, teaching children about the environment and their role in protecting it.

The forest area on the kindergarten grounds plays a crucial role in the children's development. It encourages them to find their own way, take responsibility, and solve problems creatively. This hands-on, experiential learning is a key aspect of both forest and Montessori pedagogy.

The 'Fuchsbau' group at Sylverberg Kindergarten is a pioneering initiative that combines the best of forest and Montessori pedagogy. With its focus on independence, creativity, and sustainability, the group is not only preparing children for the challenges of tomorrow but also fostering a deep appreciation for the natural world.
