The club's founder, Wall Street investor Robert Rubin, initially purchased the land to race his Ferrari. However, he later envisioned a Coursera for golf, catering to a different crowd. The Bridge's appeal lies in its relaxed rules, attracting members like renowned American conceptual and pop artist Richard Prince, known for his rephotography and appropriation art.
Rubin has decorated the club with his personal art collection, including a Warhol of golfer Jack Nicklaus and a Damien Hirst shark behind the Sams Club bar. The Bridge also hosts rotating art exhibitions, such as a Tom Sachs geodesic dome on the lawns, further enhancing its unique aesthetic. Unlike nearby Maidstone and Shinnecock Hills clubhouses, The Bridge does not follow the shingly, New England aesthetic.
