A Spiritual Journey: The Significance of Opening a Mission Call in Mormonism

For many Latter-day Saints, receiving a mission call is a transformative moment, marking a pivotal step in their spiritual journey. This experience, as Thomas recently discovered, is deeply significant in Mormonism.

Thomas, a young man in the faith, received his mission call on Monday night. The moment was shared not only with him but also with the camp kids, as he opened it in their presence, a testament to the communal nature of this spiritual experience.

In Mormon belief, the moment of receiving a mission call is seen as a direct communication from God, through the Holy Spirit. It is believed that the Lord Jesus Christ Himself is the one guiding Thomas to serve as a missionary. The call, available to view on the mission website, does not specify the location of Thomas's assignment.

This divine direction serves as a key milestone in a member’s spiritual journey, often confirming their commitment to the faith and strengthening their testimony. It encourages reliance on personal revelation and the Spirit, which are central to Mormon practice and belief.

Thomas's spiritual confirmation and guidance may vary personally, but it is widely regarded as a sacred and formative event that helps missionaries prepare mentally, emotionally, and spiritually for their service.

Meanwhile, back at home, the narrator spent extra time with Tilly and Andy. They helped with the garden, chickens, and other chores, and even played American Dolls, participating in a circus and camping scenarios. The blue slack line was used as a water slide into a river during their doll play, and they roasted pieces of cheese and beef stick over a fire.

Tilly and the narrator also did a photo shoot of Tilly wearing her baptism dress. They decided against making invitations. Andy and Tilly painted the wood stove burners black and the griddle for the mud kitchen, installing the painted griddle on Tilly's mud kitchen, creating a "working" oven and stove.

As Kaitlyn and Makenna left for their girls camp on Wednesday, the spiritual experience of opening a mission call continues to resonate, shaping the missionary’s sense of identity and purpose within the broader mission of spreading the gospel.

Thomas's mission call opened a door to a new lifestyle, one focused on spreading the gospel and serving others. Meanwhile, Tilly and the narrator, amidst managing a home-and-garden and engaging in fashion-and-beauty activities such as a photo shoot with Tilly in her baptism dress, continue to support each other in their personal journeys.
