Whole Foods Market Expands Presence in Miami and Chicago
In the heart of Miami, Florida, Whole Foods Market has opened its latest store in the midtown neighbourhood. The store, a culinary haven, offers a diverse range of food products, including specialty items, fresh meat and poultry, seafood sourced from local fisheries, a prepared foods department, a specialty bakery, and a curated grocery section.
According to store team leader Blake Guarnieri, the Miami store is set to serve the community with a unique blend of local flavour and the highest quality ingredients. Guarnieri highlighted the coffee bar, offering Cuban-inspired beverages, and the extensive seafood selection as key features.
Whole Foods Market's expansion strategy, as of June 2023, is focused on selective geographic growth. This includes the development of new stores, like the one in Frisco, Texas, within larger mixed-use community developments. The company is also committed to integrating high-quality food offerings with enhanced shopping experiences in these new locations.
In addition to the Miami store, Whole Foods Market has also expanded to the greater Chicago area. The new store in St. Charles, Illinois, spans 36,234 square feet and offers Whole Foods' signature assortment, including organic, conventional, and Sourced for Good produce. The store stocks more than 650 locally sourced products from the Midwest and carries over 500 items from more than 130 Florida suppliers.
Amazon, the parent company of Whole Foods, is No. 2 on Progressive Grocer's 2025 list of the top food and consumables retailers in North America. The company is leveraging its ecosystem to enhance Whole Foods’ retail operations, enabling Amazon Prime customers to order groceries online for in-store pickup. Amazon is also repurposing vacant retail locations to expand Whole Foods’ footprint, particularly in previously unserved markets.
Whole Foods Market is also making a positive impact in the communities it serves. In Miami, the store is donating food to local nonprofits as part of its introduction to the neighbourhood. In St. Charles, the store is donating an all-electric refrigerated van and surplus products to a nonprofit food relief organization.
As Whole Foods continues to grow, it is being increasingly folded into Amazon's "one grocery" business. The first 300 customers in line at the St. Charles store received a limited-edition tote bag and Secret Saver coupon. To celebrate the grand opening, the store is giving away free gelato pops to shoppers.
