Upcoming International Horticultural Exhibition in the Heart of Ruhr Valley, 2027
The Central Ruhr Valley is set to host the International Garden Exhibition 2027, a two-year celebration of horticulture, art, and culture. The event, which will run from 18th September 2025 to 18th September 2027, is a collaboration between five cities - Hagen, Herdecke, Wetter (Ruhr), Witten, and Hattingen - with the Ruhr Regional Association (RVR) and the surrounding eleven independent cities also playing significant roles.
In Wetter (Ruhr), a new viewing platform is being constructed in front of the castle ruins for the exhibition. Currently, the castle ruins are closed and surrounded by scaffolding, but the future holds an exciting transformation. The repurposed ruins will feature a transparent roof, turning them into an exhibition hall or open-air theater. The view from the new platform will offer a great view of the Harkortsee.
Seepark Hengstey and the Industriemuseum Zeche Nachtigall are attractive destinations along the Ruhrtalradweg, a cycling route that will be a highlight during the exhibition. Other points of interest include Muttental and the Koepchenwerk in Herdecke.
Birgit Gräfen-Loer, head of the building department in Wetter (Ruhr), stated that the goal is to combine various attractions, making the Ruhr Valley a must-visit destination for cycling enthusiasts. In fact, visitors will be able to cycle all the highlights of the Ruhrtalradweg in a single day's stage.
The exhibition aims to bring together various cities, attractions, and cultures, creating a unique experience for all who visit. With its blend of history, art, and nature, the International Garden Exhibition 2027 promises to be an unforgettable event in the Central Ruhr Valley.
