Urban Administration Sets Long-Term Plan for Enhanced Child and Adolescent Services over the Next Five Years
In a significant move to enhance leisure activities for young people and foster encounters, the city of Dormagen has signed new agreements for Open Youth Work. The agreements, which will come into force on January 1, 2026, and apply until the end of 2030, aim to create more quality in youth work and provide flexible structures that cater to the needs of young people.
The agreements will secure the financial stability of youth facilities in Dormagen for the next five years, with the city providing an annual "action pot" of 12,000 euros for providers to organize larger events with an event character.
Mayor Erik Lierenfeld emphasized the importance of offering reliable points of contact for young people in Dormagen with needed offers. He stated, "It is crucial to provide young people with reliable points of contact in Dormagen."
Initially, four events per year are planned - one per quarter. These events are expected to provide additional leisure activities for young people and promote encounters and participation.
The new agreements will also create new programs in the areas of culture, democracy promotion, and mental health, specifically addressing current social challenges. The focus for Open Youth Work in Dormagen will be on young people aged 14 and over.
Two facilities benefiting from the new agreements and receiving additional specialized staff are the Großtagespflegestelle "Fuchsbau" and the daycare center "CampusKids" at Hochschule Bochum. The "Micado" in Dormagen-Mitte and the "Rübe" in Horrem will also benefit from the additional specialist staff due to the new agreements.
The use of voluntary service providers is now explicitly supported in the new agreements, benefiting smaller facilities. This support offers young people the opportunity to engage socially and get a taste of social professions.
The new agreements also provide new content impulses for the youth facilities. A review is planned at the latest after three years to make any necessary adjustments. The signing of the new agreements lays the foundation for modern and future-oriented youth work in Dormagen.
The new agreements create more space for young people, set new priorities, and give providers planning security. They are expected to promote encounters, participation, and personal development among young people in Dormagen.
